Desmond Dekker was born in Kingston Jamaica in 1962.Orphaned as a teen he worked as a apprentice welder. His workmates encouraged him to sing noticing his vocal talent. He auditioned at Leslie Kong and was successful.His song Honour your Father and your Mother started his career.
His 1968 he released the lament The Israelites which went to the top of the British Charts. Some of his smash hit songs are Shing a LingMusic Like Dirt and Bongo Girl.Desmond Deckers vast catalogue of music, songs that defined the ska, rocksteady, and reggae eras, have provided the singer with a rich legacy that has rarely been equaled. On May 25, 2006, Dekker passed away at age 64 in his London home.
