Dill was once known as the beauty herb. Before the days of crash diets, health spas and diet pills, when a woman was expected to retain her youthful figure after bearing eight or more children, dill seed was used to maintain a lithe svelte figure. Not unlike today where everyone aspires to the youthful bodies portrayed in the fashion magazines and obesity is fast becoming the biggest health problem in the modern world.

The humble dill seed is available as it always has been as a preventative medicine to aid digestion and help the body discard toxins, gas, waste material, germs and disease. Today we only use the seeds and leaves in cooking, but in earlier days people found the plant useful for curing all manner of ailments.. Only the roots were discarded.

Some of the uses for Dill were relief for the symptoms of hangovers, hemorrhoids, insomnia, loathing, lust, pains, swellings, teething venereal disease, vomiting, windinesse and ulcers.

Dill is a beauty aid that offers beautiful skin, sweet breath and restful sleep. A beautiful complexion was possible with a blend of dill water with rose water in equal parts. This was applied three times daily and allowed to dry to clean the face and achieve a clear complexion.

Dill was once so desired that its seeds were preferred to cash or gold. It was a sign of wealth.

Stretching out a bony hand
the old man pleaded,
Pay me with Dill Seede rare
So me cupboard’ll ne’er be bare.
Circa 2nd cent BC Roman

Dill is a snob in the garden preferring to be sown in its own individual clumps a foot or so away from other plants in a sunny dry area. It can be grown indoors but it will refuse to grow tall or produce seeds. Soak the seeds overnight in warm water and Anthenum will germinate in four days. It loves water and dung. This fussy little plant resents disturbance, crowding or transplanting so do not thin.

Dill is a wonderful natural medicine and beauty aid that can be grown in your garden over and over again from your own seed.

Asparagus
Botanical name: Asparagus officinalis

Asparagus was known in ancient times as a very powerful aphrodisiac. Given the phallic appearance of the spears nature has certainly sent a message to that effect for us to heed. It was also known as a food for perpetual youth. Asparagus is also a very delicious vegetable and can be cooked simply or made into exotic dishes.

Asparagus takes five years or more to produce spears if you grow it from seed so the best way to grow it is from crowns. Once you have planted your asparagus and it has become established, you will be able to harvest it for eighteen to twenty years. It is an excellent plant for a community garden as a very large bed can be made and cared for by many people.

Roman Pliny the Elder was a herbalist who stressed it’s values. He urged “the eating of it daily for freedom from all diseases and for speed”. Mexican botanists classified their Esparrago as a heart tonic. The Greek Theophrastus explained that the mild laxative properties in the “spinous coronary Herb” were helpful in disposing of the waste products in the body which create illness and thus place a strain on the heart. Doctors found various cures in the health food by using not only the stalks that we eat, but also every other part of the plant including the roots and berries that we discard.

In modern times there have been claims that it can prevent and even cure some very serious illnesses. Although Richard R. Vensal’s article has not been able to be found Asparagus is safe and cannot hurt you. Here are some testimonials:

“My Mom had been taking the full-stalk canned style asparagus that she pureed and she took 4 tablespoons in the morning and 4 tablespoons later in the day. She did this for over a month. She is on chemo pills for Stage 3 lung cancer in the pleural area and her cancer cell count went from 386 down to 125 as of this past week. Her oncologist said she does not need to see him for 3 months.”
Several years ago, I had a man seeking asparagus for a friend who had cancer. He gave me a photocopied copy of an article, entitled, `Asparagus for cancer’ printed in Cancer News Journal, December 1979. I will share it here, just as it was shared with me:
I am a biochemist, and have specialized in the relation of diet to health for over 50 years. Several years ago, I learned of the discovery of Richard R. Vensal, D.D.S. that asparagus might cure cancer. Since then, I have worked with him on his project. We have accumulated a number of favorable case histories. Here are a few examples:
Case No. 1, A man with an almost hopeless case of Hodgkin’s disease (cancer of the lymph glands) who was completely incapacitated. Within 1 year of starting the asparagus therapy, his doctors were unable to detect any signs of cancer, and he was back on a schedule of strenuous exercise.
Case No. 2, a successful businessman 68 years old who suffered from cancer of the bladder for 16 years. After years of medical treatments, including radiation without improvement, he went on asparagus. Within 3 months, examinations revealed that his bladder tumor had disappeared and that his kidneys were normal.
Case No. 3, a man who had lung cancer. On March 5th 1971, he was put on the operating table where they found lung cancer so widely spread that it was inoperable. The surgeon sewed him up and declared his case hopeless. On April 5th he heard about the Asparagus therapy and immediately started taking it. By August, x-ray pictures revealed that all signs of the cancer had disappeared. He is back at his regular business routine.
Case No.. 4, a woman who was troubled for a number of years with skin cancer. She finally developed different skin cancers which were diagnosed by the acting specialist as advanced.. Within 3 months after starting on asparagus, her skin specialist said that her skin looked fine and no more skin lesions. This woman reported that the asparagus therapy also cured her kidney disease, which started in 1949. She had over 10 operations for kidney stones, and was receiving government disability payments for an inoperable, terminal, kidney condition. She attributes the cure of this kidney trouble entirely to the asparagus.
I was not surprised at this result, as `The elements of materia medica’, edited in 1854 by a Professor at the University of Pennsylvania, stated that asparagus was used as a popular remedy for kidney stones. He even referred to experiments, in 1739, on the power of asparagus in dissolving stones. Note the dates!
We would have other case histories but the medical establishment has interfered with our obtaining some of the records. I am therefore appealing to readers to spread this good news and help us to gather a large number of case histories that will overwhelm the medical skeptics about this unbelievably simple and natural remedy.
For the treatment, asparagus should be cooked before using, and therefore canned asparagus is just as good as fresh.
Place the organic cooked asparagus in a blender and liquefy to make a puree, and store in the refrigerator. Give the patient 4 full tablespoons twice daily, morning and evening. Patients usually show some improvement in from 2-4 weeks. It can be diluted with water and used as a cold or hot drink. This suggested dosage is based on present experience, but certainly larger amounts can do no harm and may be needed in some cases.
As a biochemist I am convinced of the old saying that `what cures can prevent.’ Based on this theory, my wife and I have been using asparagus puree as a beverage with our meals.
We take 2 tablespoons diluted in water to suit our taste with breakfast and with dinner. I take mine hot and my wife prefers hers cold. For years we have made it a practice to have blood surveys taken as part of our regular checkups. The last blood survey, taken by a medical doctor who specializes in the nutritional approach to health, showed substantial improvements in all categories over the last one, and we can attribute these improvements to nothing but the asparagus drink.

As a biochemist, I have made an extensive study of all aspects of cancer, and all of the proposed cures. As a result, I am convinced that asparagus fits in better with the latest theories about cancer. Asparagus contains a good supply of protein called histones, which are believed to be active in controlling cell growth. For that reason, I believe asparagus can be said to contain a substance that I call cell growth normalizer. That accounts for its action on cancer and in acting as a general body tonic. In any event, regardless of theory, asparagus used as we suggest, is a harmless substance. The FDA cannot prevent you from using it and it may do you much good. It has been reported by the US National Cancer Institute, that asparagus is the highest tested food containing glutathione, which is considered one of the body’s most potent anticarcinogens and antioxidants.

His remarkable ability to write and perform lyrics that are deep, passionately aggressive, accurate, and thoughtful may be may be his greatest gift. The stage performances of this young prodigy are nothing short of an interestingly smooth, mind blowing, dynamic and explosive series of events. However Jamaica’s Music Industry is a fast moving world where fame and success are difficult to gain and effortless to lose and only a select few can effectively gain and hold their audience’s attention to remain relevant to the industry as the years go by. This reality has left many entertainers with much shorter careers than they had initially expected. The Plan of Dexta Malawi involves a career of LONGEVITY and it sure sounds like he has the talent to do just that. This was his first ever studio recording in February 2009.

Community Gardens – Cut out the middle man

Community Gardens are making a come back. In the back woods of Australia if you take the time to talk to the old folk, they’ll fondly reminisce about the struggles of the war years and the camaraderie of the townsfolk banding together to produce food to feed their families and to offer their support in the face of sadness, uncertainty and all too often tragedy.

This is over sixty years ago now and in the decades that have followed, well we’ve seen the result. More people of course, and with it a materialism and waste that is beyond comprehension, especially to these old folk who well knew the meaning of the phrase ‘waste not want not’. Behind those beautiful eyes lies bewilderment at the chaos and speed with which life propels on, day in day out.

Community Gardens offer a sanctuary from this mad frenetic world, where time slows down to a human heartbeat and connection with the wisdom, knowledge and strength of our elders can be rediscovered. It also offers them an opportunity to reconnect with all sectors of the community and leave their urban prisons, which often find them alone in the solitude of their memories.

Birds, bees flowers trees and above all real food can again be accessible to everyone as they happily tend to their vegetable allotments in the company of new friends.

The skill of growing food is a life skill and with these village hubs it can again be passed on to the youth empowering them to take control of their escalating battle to survive in a world where money is god and everyone has their hand out to take however much or little of it you have.

The centralization of people into urban slums has made growing food difficult as buildings swallow up sunlight. Local, unutilized, open sunny tracts of land can be transformed into thriving ecosystems full of life and abundant food.

Seeing the potential, visionaries, intellectuals and simple folk are tentatively coming out of the shadows in droves to offer their skills and knowledge for the benefit of community and themselves.

People work outside their suburbs at jobs that hypnotise them into a routine that demands an iron will and massive stamina to maintain. By the time the week is done, they are so tired they run to the supermarket and are bombarded with sophisticated and ruthless psychological marketing strategies to get them to buy everything, not just food. Most of them are so tired they don’t even know what they are buying anymore. Having no time to research alternatives a mass confusion sets in, leading to poor nutrition, which then leads to poor decision making ability, poor health and often serious illness. This cycle just goes on and on.

Food, Shelter Clothing these are essential to survival. Restructuring your life to include producing some of your own food can have benefits that are far reaching and not just in the kitchen.

Localising food and pooling our resources are the way ahead in a world that is again uncertain. Real food means good health and a clear decisive mind. This is something we are all going to need in the years ahead so we can discern the truth about what it is we are buying, thus supporting.

Those of us fortunate enough to be employed, work very hard to earn the money to buy our food and most of the time we don’t know what’s really in it or where it has come from. It makes sense to go straight to the source and cut out the middle man. Working on growing your food is like working at any other job, you just get food instead of money.

Investigate your local community garden opportunities today. Take some time to smell the roses and slow down to pace that human beings not only thrive, but excel.

Article by Carl Johan Calleman

Main article points:

• The Mayan calendar is about you.

• According to the ancient Maya the creation of the universe is effected by nine waves.

• We are now approaching the end of the eighth wave and, on top of this, the activation of the ninth and highest level that will cap off the evolution of the universe.

• This ninth level of the universe is designed togenerate unity consciousness.

• The manifestation of the unity consciousness brought by the ninth level will require an intention on the part of the human beings to co-create this.

• The Conscious Convergence, July17-18, 2010, is for those that are
willing to set the intention to create unity consciousness in the ninth wave of the Mayan calendar system.

Lets face it when it really comes down to it all anyone really wants to be totally free is peace of mind.
So how do you get it and keep it?
To have peace of mind you have to be certain and then you are centred. To be certain you have to recognise the pattern in something.
So it goes, once you recognise the pattern, you become certain, then you are centred and then you have peace of mind.
Everything you have ever done has followed this formula, from tying your shoelaces to driving a car or riding a bike.
So why are so many people struggling to have peace of mind.
The man made world is made of millions of repeated patterns. These create a hypnotic trance in people. If we recognise a pattern we repeat the pattern and repeat it and repeat it and repeat it over and over again. It is comfortable and what we know. Instead of being creators, we are then being created, into consumers, christians, moslems, Australians, Americans Africans or clones of our favourite movie star. The great oppressive civilisations, one of which we are now living under, have had over five thousand years to perfect this hypnosis in the masses to make them into whatever serves their dominion. Workers, slaves or consumers.
So what do we do to get our peace of mind back. We recognise the pattern and then we break it. We do something different. We use our own brilliant mind to have a novel or creative thought or action to break us out of hypnosis.
By recognising and changing the pattern we automatically become more certain, hence centred and once again have peace of mind.
If you don’t have peace of mind look for the patterns and then do something different.
Nature has no repeated patterns, it is random and unpredictable and hence will never be able to be controlled by man.

A Rastafari Elder, Jah Blue knew him growing up in Jamaica.
